Monuments, Churches and natural beauties in Lanzarote

The island has a great deal of interesting buildings, like the castles that defended its inhabitants from the pirate attacks and other invaders. Its beautiful churches characterized every Lanzarote village, as well as Villas and palaces that some noblemen built.

Capital Arrecife

San Gabriel Castle: Located in a small island in front of Arrecife, built in 1574 and rebuilt 1590. Is Linked with the city by a drawbridge called "las Bolas" o “Muelle de los Puentes”.

San José Castle: Nowadays is the Center of Museo Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo, the only one of this kind in the Canaries. built in 1779. Today there is in the museum, paradoxically, a restaurant.

San Ginés Lagoon: A wide lagoon that spreads itself between the littoral and Arrecife town.

San Ginés church:dedicated to the town patron, this temple of the XVIII century has been totally renewed in 1989.

Haria

In this village of an extraordinary beauty, you will see the biggest palm grove of the "Valle de las Mil Palmeras" island".

Los Jameos del Agua:Nature and nice architecture of Cèsar Manrique created a masterpiece in this area. Stands out a lagoon created by lava cavern, where lives small, white and blind variety of crab, unique in the world. Volcanic action is the origin of this subterranean cavern, continuation of Cueva de los Verdes, where nature and man created a mix of extraordinary beauty.

Cueva de los Verdes: By the foot of Corona Volcano. It's a more than 6 km long cavern, with plenty of tunnels. There accessible path is greatly illuminated, by lights that mark the colors and the phantasmagoric shapes of this subterranean world. In one of the biggest tunnel, an auditorium has been built, which according to music experts has a great acoustics.

Guanapay fortress: with the name of Santa Barbara castle.

Santa María church: beautiful building, in gothic style, with a Virgin of Guadalupe painting inside.

los Spínolas palace: this superb building was built in the XVI century.

Convento de San Francisco: Known as Convento de Miraflores. Nowadays is the center of Sacred Arts Museum.

Tias

Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria church: stands out the beautiful coffered ceiling.

Masdache: in this village you can see "La Geria", where take place a particular Lanzarote way of cultivating grapes among the best known wines, the Malvasìa.

Yaiza

The monuments you can see in Yaizaare built by the nature.

El Golfo:An emerald lagoon divided from the sea by a wide and hidden in an old crater beach .

Los Hervideros:A high sun protection is required to visit this place.

Janubio salines: with the penetrating sea a huge salty bed has been deposited.

Timanfaya natural park:: in the north of Yaiza spreads the biggest and most impressive volcanic region of the island.

Montañas de Fuego:: within the Natural park's bounds El Islote de Hilario is one of the most interesting points.
